Do not lose the faith! I go to bed now! This narrows it down yet further. This points to the launcher being fine, but that the servers are giving us garbage. The reason it doesn't seem specific to any particular computer and why repeated re-downloads eventually works is because the problem is almost certainly not on our computers at all, its with the BW servers. The only way you'd get different downloads like this when not using the launcher is if the server was bad in some way, we've successfully eliminated the launcher as the likely culprit between us, nice one.

It could still be faulty, we could be looking at multiple bugs of course but until they fix the servers we can't rely on the launcher for downloading because we need to get to the files to checksum them. When you do get a good file could you do some diffs and get an idea of if there is a pattern to the error sections.

The more information we have about the faults in the files the easier it is for the developer to find the culprit and fix it. I'll work on some better instructions using the md5's to ensure correct files, then improve the manual process further.

That should get everyone up and running. I really am quite sure we have worked out what is going wrong now, we've eliminated all the possibilities. Give me a few hours while I prepare some instructions. You sir, are truly amazing.

Sadly I didnt save the faulty ones, I'll do a redownload and see what I get. I've partially given up atm, since my installer is actually giving errors even with the correct files.

God darn it this was looking like all the ducks were lined up! Sounds like we have multiple different problems then. My post will fix it for some people with the download problem but not with the install problem you have.

But they are just zip files so in theory we can manually install them. I will look into that as well. One of the reasons the launcher keeps downloading files over and over and only occasionally succeeds is because the servers that provide us files are producing different files when we download from it.

That should never be the case pointing to a problem with BW's web servers. The launcher knowsthat a file isn't what it should be in the same way that we do in this guide and when it detects a problem it redownloads the entire asset set. Some of the sets very large, but the actual downloads are relatively smaller. The launcher deletes perfectly good files in the batch when one is corrupt. The below process is a manual process that will considerably reduce the amount of bandwidth needed to install the game, but you may need to download some files multiple times as the problem is outside of your control.

Change its properties so it is always run as admin. Let it install the initial videos assets. This has seemed to work for everyone so far. Stop the launcher at this point.

The reason is that some of the files in here are likely corrupt already, we'll be getting nice new ones in a minute. You can use a download manager if you have one. Store them in a folder away from the game directory. It is free and its going to tell you which files are corrupted.

The software will run for awhile and then it will show you some letters and numbers in the "Current file MD5 checksum value" textbox. The difference tells you that the file was corrupted in some way. Its quite clever but we developers use checksums like this all the time to ensure everything copied smoothly. Keep repeatedly downloading any corrupt files until all of them have precisely the same MD5 checksum reported in the above list.

It will now quickly process the main assets 1, english assets 1, main assets 17 and english assets 17 without the problem you saw before. There is a final download after this for the game client, its so small 4MB it shouldn't be a problem but if it is you can hit repair.

If repair starts downloading from earlier in the process quit it, and do the whole thing again, but you wont need to download the files again so you can happily try again within minutes. We have no reported problems with the game client asset so far. Alas it seems the installer might also be buggy. I am certain this resolves the download portion of the problem, and I am looking into the format used for the files to see if we can manually unzip them somehow.

Yeah I was having that "Is it really true, are the stars aligning and everything is going to be ok? Second had wrong MD5 sum. Since I couldn't find a quick windows diff utility for binary files I wrote a small one myself. My friend is having the exact same issues as you guys. His steps in order, Installed Beta for the Nov beta session. Uninstalled once it was over.

Copied files from another friends laptop onto his external harddrive. Installed onto his pc using the launcher method. Has the Assets problem but with file 11 and also the manifest. I am sending him a file from my game dir which seems to be causing him the issue. I hope that info helps someone. I will keep posting his progress and all the steps we try. Looks to me like random bits are actually beeing inverted througout the file. Hmmm yes I see no random rhyme or reason to that list of differences.

We've cracked one half of the mystery tonight though fella and its going to help a lot of people. I wonder why the installer is still failing. The files seem to be a customized version OK zip 2. In the meantime have you run the launcher as admin?

Really important you do that and I notice I haven't put that in my instructions and its necessary. Looking at the diffs closely, I always get the same bit wrong in every byte that has the error.

Is anyone else able to download "corrupt" files and confirm this is not only me? What program did you use to unzip that prompted for a password? Sorry guys I really need to sleep, I'll be back in the morning. In the meantime get those downloads done and try the process. If it doesn't install then hopefully by that point we'll know how to cut the launcher out completely.

Yeah I'm feeling that we're on to something of a solution here. I don't have the energy to try to unzipp them myself tonight, I'm also using 7Zip. Also I'll repeat, it's always the same bit position in the diffs. It was a joke in reference to brothers marrying sisters and having babies I am pretty sure that you have done no such thing I bet you don't do that because the NAACP caused enough of a stir to make that socially unacceptable.

Bygones be bygones. I'm finally home from work. Attempting install Edit: Oh hey, look at that. Error and I'm re-downloading Main Assets 1 again Welcome home. BrightCandle wrote up a guide on how to manually download all the files and check the file integrity.

I suggest you try there if you're feeling brave. I figured out a solution. The issue for me was with corrupt files. Look in your patch logs to find which exact files are corrupt. The corrupt file is stopping the installer. How I solved this; Delete the corrupt files. Find a friend who has the client installed without this issue. Have them send you the exact file I used msn.

Take the file they sent you, place it in the asset folder in place of the corrupt file and voila - the patcher should be able to continue. You may have to sift through a lot of logs to find which files are corrupt. I had a total of two files I had to replace. Hope this helps! PM me for questions.

No actually its not the same Redneck is not referring to a race of people.. I believe you are really stretching to try and find it offensive and even remotely close to a racial slur. I supose since everyone's opined definition of "redneck" will be different that even further complicates your argument.

You may consider it someone from the country who is very outdoorsy and hunts a lot and drives a 4x4. To some redneck is the "here is your sign" people described in Jeff Foxworthy's comedy skits. By the comment I made it is very clear that is the "definition" i was referring to.

But for you making it such a stretch to compare it to racism "here's your sign". Oh well, it's bumping the thread and that's all that matters.

I just wanted to throw out my thanks for the manual download instructions. I have been trying with the launcher for about 10 times previously and always failing! I'll post back when it finishes getting them all on whether any files actually come down complete and without error! This is so strange, I had zero problems at all during one of the beta weekends.

Client full downloaded and installed on very first try, with exactly the same computer I'm using now. Noob here. How do I find the patch manifest? Edit: Nvm, found it. Which program should I use to read it? A password we can find, it must be in the exe or in some of the files downloaded.

I just used WinRAR and it prompted for a password right away. Thanks for posting this, Brightcandle. This was very, very helpful. When downloading these files, something I noticed was that I encountered many, many errors.

No way to download this one file. It took six more downloads of the affected files before I could get matching numbers. One or two fixed each attempt. This tells me that something really wrong is up with the servers, along with the Launcher, which should be checking for these errors. I guess it does, but it just re-downloads the entire game to fix it, instead of addressing the affected files.

Really weird way of doing things. I'll continue with downloading the rest of the files. This is very time consuming, but seems to be working. At least I can get uncorrupted files to work with for installing. That's just incredible. I wonder if you guys get the same thing? I'm wondering, can't someone with a working game install just upload their folder somewhere? I would think BW would even consider doing something to this end at this point.

I mean, this kinda seems like a big deal, no? Ok, new update Now, the tab I'm using in my browser just continues to try to connect without success. It eventually says that Explorer cannot display the webpage.

XXX" files to match the MD5 checks, except for the ". XXX" section. Anybody else getting this? This is just crazy. Why am I doing this just to install a game? The text document that lists your corrupt files is not the patch manifest. It opens in notepad, no other program required to read it. It opens in notepad, no other program required to read it Oh I was totally looking at the wrong thing.

For what it's worth, z01, z02, and z07 were problems for me. The rest I got first shot. Official Document here for a more up-to-date version of this guide. Category : Troubleshooting. Star Citizen Wiki uses cookies to keep session information and analytics to provide you a better experience.
